How Instant Sheet Metal Quoting Works

Our online sheet metal pricing calculator gives you accurate, real-time quotes in three simple steps. The entire process from file upload to placed order takes under a minute.

1

Upload Your CAD File

Drag and drop your DXF, STEP, or 3MF file into our instant quoting tool. Our parser reads your geometry directly — cut paths, internal cutouts, bend lines, part dimensions, and bounding box are all extracted automatically. There is no need to fill in a form or describe your part manually. The system supports files from any CAD software including Fusion 360, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, FreeCAD, and more. You can upload multiple files to quote an entire project at once.

2

Configure Material, Thickness & Quantity

Choose from our full range of sheet metals: mild steel, stainless steel (304 and 316), and aluminium (5005 and 5052). Select your sheet thickness from the available standard sizes and enter your desired quantity. The interface shows you exactly which options are available for each material. You can switch between materials and thicknesses to compare pricing in real time — the quote updates instantly every time you make a change.

3

Get Your Instant Price & Order Online

Receive production-accurate pricing in seconds, calculated from real laser cutting speeds, current material costs, and machine cycle times. The price you see is the price you pay — no hidden fees or surprise charges at checkout. If you are happy with the quote, add it to your cart and proceed to checkout. You can pay by card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) or by PayID. Once your order is confirmed, we begin manufacturing immediately.

How Sheet Metal Pricing Is Calculated

Our instant pricing is not an estimate — it is a real-time calculation using actual machine parameters. Here is exactly what goes into the price of your laser cut parts.

Cutting Time

The primary cost driver. Our system calculates the total cut length in metres directly from your CAD geometry — external perimeter plus all internal cutouts and holes. This is divided by the cutting speed for your chosen material and thickness, using real CypCut laser parameters (the same software that controls our laser cutter). Thicker material cuts slower. Stainless steel cuts slower than mild steel. More complex parts with many small features take longer due to additional pierces.

Material Cost

Based on the sheet area consumed by your part. The system calculates the bounding box of your geometry and determines the material usage. Different materials vary significantly in cost per square metre — stainless steel and aluminium cost more per kilogram than mild steel, and thickness has a direct impact on material weight and therefore cost.

Handling & Setup

Every order includes fixed handling costs covering sheet loading, machine setup, part removal, and deburring. These costs are spread across the quantity ordered — which is why ordering more parts reduces the per-unit price. Our three-tier handling system accounts for different part sizes and weights.

Quantity Discounts

Because setup and handling are amortised across more parts, and nesting efficiency improves with higher quantities, the per-part price drops as you order more. The instant quoting tool lets you adjust quantity in real time and see the per-unit price update live — so you can find the optimal quantity for your budget.

Full transparency: The price shown by our instant quoting tool is the price you pay. There are no hidden setup fees, tooling charges, or surprise costs at checkout. Card payments incur a 1.75% + 30c processing surcharge (shown at checkout), or you can pay by PayID at the original price with no surcharge.

Frequently Asked Questions About Instant Sheet Metal Quoting

Common questions about our instant online quoting tool for sheet metal laser cutting, CNC bending, and fabrication in Australia.

How fast is the instant sheet metal quote?

Our instant quoting engine returns production-accurate pricing in under 10 seconds. Upload your DXF, STEP, or 3MF file, select your material and thickness, and the price appears on screen immediately. There is no waiting for an email response, no sales engineer review, and no back-and-forth. You can adjust material, thickness, and quantity in real time and watch the price update instantly.

What file formats do you accept for instant quoting?

We accept DXF files for 2D laser cutting profiles, and STEP and 3MF files for 3D sheet metal parts with bends. DXF is the most common format and works with virtually every CAD program including AutoCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Inventor, FreeCAD, and LibreCAD. STEP files carry 3D geometry, allowing our system to automatically unfold sheet metal parts to their flat pattern for cutting and then calculate bending costs. 3MF is supported for sheet metal models exported from tools like Fusion 360 and PTC Creo.

What is the minimum order for laser cutting?

There is no minimum order quantity. You can order a single prototype part or thousands of production parts. Our minimum order value is $45 for sheet metal and laser cutting jobs. This minimum covers the fixed costs of machine setup, sheet loading, and part handling regardless of how small or simple the part is.

How accurate is the instant online pricing?

Our instant quotes are production-accurate, not estimates. Pricing is calculated using real CypCut laser cutting speeds, actual material costs, and measured machine cycle times. The cut length is calculated directly from your CAD geometry, and the cutting speed for each material and thickness combination comes from our production laser parameters. The price you see is the price you pay. For parts with unusual requirements such as tight tolerances, special finishes, or welded assemblies, you can request a manual quote for anything our automated system does not cover.

Can I get a quote for bent sheet metal parts?

Yes. Upload a STEP or 3MF file of your sheet metal part and our system will automatically detect bends, unfold the part to its flat pattern, and calculate both the laser cutting and CNC bending costs. Our 135-tonne press brake handles bends up to 2.5 metres long in material up to 6mm thick in most materials. For complex multi-bend parts or parts that require specific bend sequences, we recommend also reviewing our sheet metal design guide to ensure manufacturability.

What materials can be laser cut?

We laser cut mild steel (1mm to 16mm), stainless steel 304 and 316 (1mm to 8mm), and aluminium 5005 and 5052 (1mm to 8mm). Each material is available in multiple standard thicknesses. Select your material in the instant quoting tool and the available thickness options will appear automatically. For detailed specifications, visit our material guides.

How long is turnaround for laser cut parts?

Standard turnaround is 3 to 5 business days for cutting and fabrication, plus shipping time. Most orders within South East Queensland arrive within 1 to 2 business days after dispatch. Interstate delivery to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth typically takes 3 to 5 business days via our shipping partners. Express turnaround is available on request for urgent jobs — contact us directly if you need parts faster.

Do you ship laser cut parts Australia-wide?

Yes. We ship to every state and territory in Australia from our workshop in Jimboomba, QLD (south of Brisbane). Shipping rates are calculated at checkout using live carrier quotes from multiple Australian freight companies. We pack all parts securely to prevent damage in transit. For large or heavy orders, we can arrange pallet freight. Local Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Logan customers can also arrange pickup.

How do I prepare my DXF file for laser cutting?

Your DXF file should contain closed contours (polylines or splines) on a single layer, drawn at 1:1 scale in millimetres. Remove all dimensions, text, construction lines, and hatch patterns before uploading. Each closed contour becomes a cut path — the outer contour is the part perimeter, and any inner contours are cutouts or holes. For best results, export from your CAD software using the R14 or R2018 DXF format. Read our full guide on how to prepare DXF files for laser cutting for detailed instructions and common mistakes to avoid.

What if my file does not upload or shows an error?

The most common upload issues are open contours (lines that do not form a closed shape), self-intersecting geometry, or files saved in an unsupported format. Check that all contours are fully closed, there are no overlapping or duplicate lines, and the file is saved as a standard DXF. If you are uploading a STEP file, ensure it is a valid solid body and not a surface model. If you continue to have issues, contact us at [email protected] and attach your file — we will diagnose the problem and let you know how to fix it, or we can quote the part manually.
