Why does the per-unit price drop so much at higher quantities?

Two fixed costs get amortised across more parts: order setup (programming and first-piece checks) and press-brake bend setup, which is a one-off per job regardless of quantity. Material and cutting time scale with each part, but the fixed setup is spread thinner the more you order, and identical parts nest more efficiently on a shared sheet. That is why a single formed bracket is dominated by setup, while at 100 off the per-unit price can be up to 95% lower.

How can I reduce laser cutting costs?

Order in quantity (even 10+ parts significantly reduces per-unit cost). Choose mild steel over stainless when corrosion resistance is not needed. How to Reduce Your Costs

Order in bulk

Even 5-10 units significantly reduces per-unit cost through better nesting and shared setup.

Choose mild steel when possible

Stainless steel costs 2-3x more. If corrosion resistance is not critical, mild steel with powder coating can be a better option.

Minimise small features

Each hole and cutout adds a pierce operation. Consolidate features where possible or remove cosmetic holes.

Reduce the number of bends

The first bend carries the press-brake tooling setup. Fewer bends = lower cost. Consider flat parts with fasteners instead of complex folded shapes.

Keep parts within sheet size

Parts approaching 3000x1500mm use more sheet per unit. Smaller parts nest better.

Use standard thicknesses
