Custom Automotive Manufacturing
JDL Innovations specialises in custom automotive parts manufacturing, combining CNC machining, laser cutting, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D scanning under one roof. We produce bellhousing adapters for engine and gearbox conversions, custom engine mounts, pedal boxes, intercooler brackets, and billet-machined accessories. Our approach is engineering-led — we work from your CAD files or can reverse-engineer existing components using our 3D scanner to create accurate models for manufacturing. Whether you are building a street car, a competition vehicle, or developing a product for the aftermarket, our workshop in Jimboomba handles everything from prototype to production. We serve automotive customers across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and all of Australia.
Materials for Automotive Parts
Material selection is critical in automotive applications where parts must balance strength, weight, and durability. We commonly machine 6061-T6 aluminium for lightweight brackets, adapter plates, and billet components — it offers excellent machinability and good strength for most structural applications. For high-stress components such as driveshafts, gears, axles, and transmission parts, we use 4140 and 4340 engineering steels that can be heat-treated to achieve the required hardness and fatigue resistance. EN26 is specified for high-impact applications like axle shafts. Stainless steel (304 and 316) is used for exhaust components, fasteners, and parts exposed to corrosion. Mild steel is the most economical choice for brackets, mounts, and fabricated structures. See our material guides at jdlinnovations.au/materials for detailed alloy comparisons.
Our Automotive Process
Most custom automotive projects start with either a 3D scan of the existing vehicle or component, or a customer-supplied CAD model. We 3D scan engine bays, gearbox housings, and chassis mounting points to capture the exact geometry needed for accurate adapter and bracket design. From the scan data, we model new parts in CAD, verify fitment digitally, then manufacture using CNC machining, laser cutting, or a combination of processes. For bellhousing adapters, we typically machine from solid aluminium billet for maximum precision and strength. For brackets and mounting structures, laser cut and bent sheet metal is often the most efficient approach. We can also 3D print prototype parts for test-fitting before committing to final machining, saving time and money on complex fitment-critical components.

Frequently Asked Questions
What automotive parts do you manufacture?
Bellhousing adapters, engine mounts, brackets, gearbox adapters, conversion components, and custom one-off parts. If it’s metal and goes on a vehicle, we can likely make it.
Do you work with motorsport teams?
Yes, we supply parts for club racing, time attack, and drag racing. We understand the requirements for strength, weight, and fitment in performance applications.
Can you reverse-engineer an existing part?
Absolutely. We can 3D scan the original, create a CAD model, and manufacture an improved version in your choice of material.
What materials do you use for automotive parts?
6061-T6 aluminium (billet machined), 4140/4340 engineering steels (shafts, gears, axles), stainless steel, and mild steel. Material selection depends on the application — we’ll advise on the best option.
